The Best Loudspeakers in the World ...
-or-
The search for the Holy Grail ....
In our estimation, the best loudspeakers in the world will never be.
In nearly 30 years of studying acoustics and audio engineering, we have heard, tested, modified and developed countless loudspeakers.
There are many different philosophies, theories, or even 'fanatical' conceptions about which is the best speaker principle.
The fact is, however, that each loudspeaker is a compromise with its advantages and disadvantages.
So far none could convince us with one hundred percent satisfaction.
Obviously, we can not neglect the laws of physics.
But we are confident of our know-how of them and therefore have chosen to build one of the best loudspeakers we can, to the best of our knowledge.
The Known Problems...
Conventional multi-way loudspeakers with [woman-]friendly dimensions are usually not a dynamic wonder and thus not able to reproduce musical material with live amplitudes.
The lower frequency range, which is indisputably an important part of the music, is grossly missing. They often require particular amplification to perform convincingly.
Large passive speakers with adequate housing dimensions and cone measurements are capable of dynamically reproducing a live concert, but they struggle with serious problems of spatial acoustics in almost all domestic rooms. Listening room acoustical modes and resonances usually provide for a smeary bass and little joy.
To overcome this problem they typically need powerful amplifiers and or other auxiliaries, a problem which by itself often leads to additional partnership woes ...
Full-Range speakers are convincing in resolution, phase cohesion, and dynamics and usually require only minimal amplification. However, they are extremely critical of complex passages and of the large amplitudes when membrane resonances and Doppler effect limit their dynamic abilities. For this reason, playback in the lowest and highest frequency range can not be fully convincingly portrayed.
Large-sized multi-horn loudspeakers may also often be operated with small watts and play very dynamically, but often require large listening space and usually struggle with discolorations and tonal irregularity at different listening levels.
In addition, there are usually a slew of problems to be addressed in the integration of the lower frequency range. /Often, the 'good' ones are price-prohibitive./
The Goal...
Construct an acoustically large loudspeaker with compact dimensions, which is capable of reproducing a high-resolution and three-dimensional sound stage with different music material and volume settings, with seamless dynamics and neutrality.
Of course, the bass range must be perfectly adapted to the room acoustics.
Since a large portion of the sound comes from the mid-bass and tweeter transducer, and the market provides ample excellent low-power amplifiers (single-ended, Class-A, 300B tubes, etc.), this should have a high efficiency.
It was also clear that no unnecessary sound-destroying separation frequencies may be present in the hearing-relevant frequency range. (Yes, we like full-range speakers)
2-way?
No, its sound should be that of a large loudspeaker.
So 2-way + active, adjustable low bass support with DSP (DSP= digital sound processing), or active crossover is our answer.
With the finest components and acoustically perfect housing made of concrete we are on the right track.
Yes !
GERMAN HIGHEND Reference
Only the finest !
That for one of the best loudspeakers only the best ingredients are needed is self-evident. /Isn't this the same rule-of-thumb for all Michelin° Star restaurant kitchens?/
An advantage that can not be overstated in this project is that we are a free and independent enterprise. This means we can choose our components freely on the world market and are not bound by supplier contracts, budgeting, specifications or restraints of the executive committee, etc., and so forth.
A manufacturer of excellent bass chassis is not automatically competent in the area of high-resolution tweeters and a capacitor specialist does not necessarily build the best resistors.
We supply our components from about 15 different suppliers.
This does not make things easier for us and is certainly more costly so.
But this is the only way to reach the goal we set ourselves!
Resolution
Only an Air Motion Transformer (A.M.T.), can be used in the treble range.
Despite the extremely low diaphragm weight and size, an A.M.T. tweeter is able to move a great deal of air.
Read, “Extremely fast, dynamic and also play loud.” This 'accordion principle' is convincing due to the extremely low distortion and ultra-fast amplitude response time. Anyone privileged to hear a good Air Motion Transformer in a high-caliber chain will understand our love for the A.M.T..
So we tested different A.M.T. tweeters from Germany, Switzerland, Spain and the USA ...
The final selection fell on a newcomer product, which clearly showed the proven and well-known A.M.T.'s tributes, especially in aspect of detail. A modified coupling volume with integrated attenuation plus the phase cohesion and the special WG-horn enable an unusually deep roll-over frequency enabling a seamless transition to the middle range.
The frequency range that is most important for the recognition, identification of clues and cues is almost completely taken over by the tweeter!
Phenomenal spatial imaging, room presentation, sharpness, clarity and resolution are the result.
Golden Middle
There are hardly any bass-midrange drivers on the market which have high efficiency even at low frequencies and still manage with compact housing dimensions.
Additionally, a very fast chassis is needed, which in the middle range can not lag behind the extremely fast A.M.T..
After a long research and numerous listening comparisons we have actually found a Scandinavian 8 " chassis with “almost full-range sound," and corresponding efficiency, which is required for our purpose.
In fact, there was initially some skepticism about the large cone diameter.
The sound performance of the mixed-fiber membrane driver developed in Denmark, its lack of coloration and the amazing dynamics, however, rapidly shattered these doubts.
A sensational chassis!
Bundling effects due to the large cone surface are no problem due to the low coupling to the A.M.T..
No Bass - No Fun
Since a room adjustment facility for the bass region was on the to-do list, the lower frequency range needed active addressing.
By the way, this has the great advantage that the amplifier electronics for high- and mid-range can be selected exclusively according to sound aspects, without regard for high power reserves. This should be particularly pleasing for friends of fine tube or Class-A technology.
The powerful 12 "sandwich diaphragm subwoofers from Audio Technology are completely independent and serviced by ultra-powerful Class-D power amplifiers (500W / RMS). The integrated DSPs allow for a perfect adaptation to room acoustics and listening taste through numerous freely programmable filters.
For smaller-sized listening rooms, the brutal reserves of the two AV6 subwoofers are of course not needed. In addition to the large subwoofers, there are various DSP active subwoofers available in various technical designs to match your needs and listening habits. Here the AV6 Sat, depending on the music direction and preference, can also be operated with smaller subwoofer(s) or even without.
Invisible yet extremely Influential
The crossover is the heart of a loudspeaker.
The tuning of a crossover is both craftsmanship and art ...
In addition to acoustic measurement technology, hearing, experience and fine touch sensitivity are also necessary for their design.
Apart from cut-off frequencies, roll-over slopes, phase response, linearity, etc., the quality of the components used is decisive for the sound result.
The temporal expenditure of the development of these sound transducers can hardly be quantified.
That the design of this loudspeaker project justifies only the finest of components, is self-evident.
The Mundorf silver foil oil paper capacitors, Clarity caps, Jantzen Superior Caps, waxed copper coil coils and induction-less resistors used in the passive version will hardly be found in other manufacturers' loudspeakers, regardless of the price.
Of course, the electronic components of the active version also belong to the best of the world market.
The internal wiring consists of GH-pure silver conductors and low-voltage connection terminals where required.
Form follows function
The enclosure design:
A loudspeaker housing must by no means vibrate, should not have parallel walls and or surfaces with equal dimensions in order to avoid standing waves inside the enclosure and may still also look chic.
Intelligent housing design and mass are the solution.
It was a fortunate and timely coincidence that our search led us to cross paths with the "masters of the concrete," OGGI concrete.
It is only because of this chance happening that the AV6 project can be properly implemented.
To underscore this point, an aesthetic, acoustically almost perfect housing design was developed in numerous night shifts and in the final end OGGI concrete converted it into impressive perfection.
That the high-frequency /Wave Guide/ horn itself, which is integrated into the enclosure which is made from almost resonance-proof mineral concrete, is just one of the highlights of this extremely complex housing.
Material
Why Concrete?
The acoustic properties of the material used are obvious:
-Extremely high mass with minimum volume.
-High internal damping characteristics.
-Unlimited design possibilities for an acoustically optimal housing shape.
From 1988 on, special self-compacting concrete (SVB), was developed on the basis of research findings in Japan.
Thanks to self-compacting concrete, advantages are obtained with regard to uniform concrete quality over the entire cross-section, little restriction in the structural design of components, improved durability and excellent visual concrete properties with very dense, pore-poor surfaces and fine 'touch' to the fingers.
The SVB used consists of a high-performance binder, with the addition of aggregates (maximum grain size 2 mm), water and flow agent, a fine concrete with a bending tensile strength of 9 N / mm2 whereas a compression strength of ≥100 N / mm2 is achieved.
The view of the hardened concrete surface skin and subsurface reflects the finesse of the used material features in the design and manufacture.
Each loudspeaker is a unique piece of craftsmanship. To achieve the highest aesthetic visual concrete structural component is always the target of OGGI concrete.
The hard-coated concrete surface gives the AV6 a very timeless finish and ensures a positive 'goose bumps' feeling when touched. :-)
Unique
As you wish...
With the right technology at our disposal we consider your requirements, as, for example, there are crossovers and internal wiring in different quality levels and different subwoofer options available.
Very interesting are also the active AV6 versions, which make additional amplifier electronics superfluous.
The finish of the AV6 consists of timeless pigmented natural concrete and is available in various colors.
On request you can also get surface coatings of practically any kind applied to the concrete.
Allot is Possible.

It's all about this
The sound
In fact, the AV6 has almost no 'sound', which was the goal of this project and development of this product.
The capabilities of this sonic transducer lie in the fact that the music signal is reproduced tonally correct, three-dimensional and distortion-free, without any dynamic loss.
You will hear the quality of the sound carrier and your components.
Only a few transducers, regardless of the price, are able to realize this at this high level.
And even less so are those at these sound levels and with such dynamic reserves with least mentioned the compact dimensions and unprecedented [flea watt] amplification requirements.
Whether you enjoy Vivaldi at a whisper, to 'sit' in an intimate jazz club, or experience hard rock or heavy metal in live concert volume, the AV6 will inspire you and leave not the slightest wish for more.
All in all, the GERMAN HIGHEND reference sound transducer is unique and unrivaled.
